8 Simple Ways to Lose 10 Pounds – FAST

We’ve all been there – you meant to start dieting and working out months ago, but life got in the way (and those cookies were delicious). Now your trip to the beach is around the corner, and you need to drop some pounds – fast.

I can’t judge you, because I’ve been there myself. Luckily, I’ve also picked up a few tricks along the way that can help you lose up to 10 pounds in just a couple of weeks. They’re not all easy, but when you get down to crunch time, all that matters is that they actually work.

1) Go low carb

Low-carb diets, like the ketogenic diet, are great ways to lower your insulin levels, improve your focus, and maybe even fight disease. But we’re not worried about that right now – we just want to look fantastic.

Low-carb diets can help turbocharge your metabolism, depriving your body of carbs and forcing it to burn fat instead. They’re wonderful for eliminating water weight as well, so you can see quick results and stop any unsightly bloating.

The best part? You won’t have to deprive yourself, making it easier to stick to the diet after your initial goals are met.

2) Drink like a fish

Drink water, that is. Chugging water like you’ve spent the last few months stranded in the desert isn’t just good for your health, it’s also great for shedding pounds.

Try drinking a full glass of water before each meal. Lots of times hunger is just thirst in disguise, so downing a cup of H20 can help curb cravings. Even if you’re not thirsty, it will fill your stomach with water, ensuring you eat less without feeling like you’re starving.

It also acts as a diuretic, so you can get rid of any water that’s hanging around and causing you to jiggle.

3) Lay off the salt

Salt causes you to pack on water weight (noticing a trend here?), so cutting down on the sodium is one of the easiest ways to get the scale moving in the right direction.

Plus, most of the saltiest foods – chips, candy, popcorn – are also some of the worst for you, so knocking them out of your diet will have all sorts of fringe benefits.

4) Kick up the intensity on your cardio

If you’ve never tried High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), you don’t know what you’re missing. It’s one of the best ways to burn fat fast – and you don’t have to spend all day doing it, either.

The way it works is, you pick your cardio exercise of choice, and you do it as hard as you possibly can for 30 seconds to a minute. No holding back, now – you have to give 100% the entire time. Then, take a break for a minute or two, and repeat it four or five times.

That’s right – you only have to do this for five or six minutes a day to see results. Fair warning: you’ll be exhausted afterwards, but it’ll all be worth it when you start seeing results.

5) Get more z’s

Now we’re talking, right? The fact is, it’s extremely hard to stay consistent with your diet and weight loss efforts if you’re exhausted all the time.

It’s much easier to have the willpower to resist dessert – or to go to the gym – if you’ve gotten enough sleep. Try just going to bed 30 minutes earlier than you normally do. Not only will you feel better, but the extra rest will boost your metabolism and rebuild muscle tone.

The best part is, if anyone catches you asleep, you can tell them you’re working out!

6) Veggies, veggies, veggies

Before you eat anything, ask yourself one question, “Could this be replaced by vegetables?” If so, eating a veggie instead will go a long way towards helping you reach your goals.

This is especially true of grains and starches. The good news is, most starchy foods can be replaced with vegetable-based equivalents, without sacrificing flavor. For example, try replacing mashed potatoes with mashed cauliflower, or use zucchini noodles in place of pasta. You may even find you like the veggie versions better!

7) Add weights

Muscles are wonderful things. Not only do they look great on your body, but they also burn tons of calories – even when you’re just sitting still.

Of course, muscles don’t happen by accident, and there’s no better way to create brawn than by incorporating weight training into your workout. Doing a full-body circuit three times a week won’t take up too much of your time, and the results will be phenomenal – and fast.
